Darcy Crotty, a 2025 Cape Henlopen High School graduate, was awarded the annual Thorton A. Shipley Scholarship. This year’s scholarship was awarded in honor of deceased member Robert "Bob" Kreitzer.
Bob's long and dedicated fire service started in Lower Allen Township PA. After moving to Lewes Bob joined the Lewes Fire Department, serving first as an Assistant and then Chief Engineer where he was an integral part of the apparatus committee for multiple apparatus purchases. Bob achieved life member status in 2020 and remained extremely active with the department until he became seriously ill in 2023. Bob was awarded Chief Engineer Emeritus during his illness, and he passed away on December 16, 2023.
Darcy's application stood out due to her impeccable grades with a rigorous course load. Darcy was active in community service and will be attending the University of Virginia with a major in Human Biology and minor in Health, Ethics, and Society. Her goal is to become a doctor.
The Lewes Fire Department congratulates Darcy on her scholarship and wishes her the best of luck in academic pursuits.
