Thank you for your interest in joining the Lewes Fire Department. Joining the Lewes Fire Department will give you an exciting opportunity to serve your community and gain life long friends and experiences. There are many different ways to serve your community through the Lewes Fire Department.
Our Junior Membership Program managed by the Junior Committee allows teens starting at the age of 14 to join the department. After completing the required training, a junior member may become an interior structural firefighter and participate in other departmental activities.
Despite the enormous growth in our area and the consistent rise in EMS calls, we are staffed to provide EMS coverage for our district including the Town of Lewes and surrounding areas on a 24/7 basis without interruption. This is accomplished by both full-time and part-time career NREMT-Bs along with volunteer NREMT-Bs as call volumes demand.
As volunteers, our firefighters respond to fires, vehicle accidents, and marine emergencies within the Lewes Fire District and surrounding areas as needed. Comprehensive training is provided locally through our department, at a state level through the Delaware State Fire School, and nationally by outside organizations.
Assistance is needed in many areas of our operations beyond going on Fire and EMS calls. Help is needed with office work such as data management, and bookkeeping.
Throughout the year, our members conduct numerous fire prevention and outreach events to provide fire safety education and inform them of opportunities to volunteer in the fire service.
Our Fire Police protect firefighters and equipment on emergency scenes by providing scene security, crowd control and directing the flow of traffic around incidents.
The Auxiliary provides support for the fire department during incident responses, fire prevention activities, and safety programs. They also organize fundraising events and assist with work details. During outreach events, these members share important department updates and opportunities to get involved.
In addition to our operations of Fire/EMS calls, fire prevention, administrative work, etc., the Fire Dept provided many activities for its members and families throughout the year. These include our annual banquet, super bowl party, spring picnic, summer beach party, softball team, Christmas party and other events for our members and their families.
The Lewes Fire Department seeks dependable
and accountable individuals interested
in joining as EMTs and Firefighters.
