Working House Fire Villages of Red Mill

0949 hrs., Lewes Fire Department along with Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Co., Milton Fire Department, and Sussex Medic104 responded to a fully involved structure fire at 32351 Preserve Drive in the Villages of Red Mill, off Sweetbriar Road.

Deputy Chief Steve Evans was first on scene with Command82 reporting a fully involved house.  Units set up for a defensive operation while protecting exposures.

Reports say the home was well involved at dispatch and the homeowners were at home and able to rescue their 3 cats.   Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio said two people were taken to Beebe Medical Center for smoke inhalation. A 73-year-old man was transferred to Crozer Medical Center in Pennsylvania where he is in stable condition. Chionchio Estimated damage at $300,000, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Georgetown Fire Co. was also brought to the scene and crews from Indian River Vol Fire Co, Ellendale Fire Company, Memorial Fire Company, and Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company stood by for units operating on scene.  Cover up units responded to two alarms in the Lewes district while on stand-by.
