June 7th at 10:12 AM Lewes was dispatched for a woods fire. When en rout EOC notified the duty officer that the caller stated the fire was a piece of machinery back in the woods. Once the first officer arrived he determined that it was an excavator used to cut trees about a half mile off the roadway, fully involved because the top of the excavator was on fire the woods were spared. Making access to the machine was hard due to the ground being soft and the location of the incident. The incident command was established and Milton was called in to help with manpower and water. Both brush units made access and knocked the fire down. 82-2 positioned at the end of a road near the incident and ran a 400’ hand line to fill the brush trucks. Once the fire was knocked Milton used the portable foam unit to make sure the fire was completely out. Units operated for an hour.
