Passing of Life Member William H. Barker - Lewes

The Lewes Fire Dept., Inc. regrets to announce the passing of Life Member Bill Barker. Final arrangements; Services will be Wednesday morning, July 30th Viewing 1000 - Services 1100 - Internment to follow at White's Chapel Cemetery, Rt. 1 Any member wishing to attend Please be at Station 1 in full dress uniform or proper dress attire by 10AM Wednesday morning We will provide Pall Bearers, and will need assistance placing the coffin on and off Engine 82-1 All help will be appreciated. Tentatively, there will be a wake held at our Station 2 immediately following the service and Internment . We have conflicting information as to how many years Bill had with Lewes FD. To the best we can concur from personal accounts, Bill joined circa 1955 so he had 53 years service with the department. Some of our younger members may not remember Bill or even met him, but he is talked highly of by our senior membership. Official Obituary; William H. Barker, age 80, of Lewes, DE, passed away on Thursday July 24, 2008, at Renaissance Health Care Center. He was born in Milton, DE on September 23, 1927, son of the late Howard D. Barker and the late Margaret (Morris) Barker. Mr. Barker began his career after a tour of duty in the US Navy, as a party boat captain out of Ft. Miles for the Army. He later worked at the Dover Air Force Base and then at the Naval Facility at Cape Henlopen where he was in charge of base housing. He had also worked over the years at Bastian's Napa Auto Parts and was self-employed as an HVAC mechanic prior to his retirement . Mr. Barker was a member of the Lewes Volunteer Fire Department, was formerly a member of the Milton Volunteer Fire Department, and was a 32 degree mason with Jefferson Lodge in Lewes, DE. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Rennaissance Health Care Center and was especially fond of his time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his two granddaughters; Wendy Wall and her husband, Bart, of Lewes, DE; and Terri Cooke and her husband, Bob, of Dover, DE; three great grandsons; Judson Wall, Timothy Wall, and Robert Cooke; his sister, Mary Smialek of Milton, DE; his brother, Franklin Barker of Elmer, NJ; and his cousin; Clarence Barker of Lewes, DE. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barker was predeceased by his wife, Edna(Dickerson) Barker in 2001, his daughter, Carol (Barker) Connaway in 2007, and his grandson, Robert Dickson in 1996. Masonic Services followed by Christian Funeral Services with Pastor Charlie Arnold officiating will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE; where friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment with firemen's and military honors will be at White's Chapel Cemetery north of Lewes, DE. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the Lewes Vol. Fire Dept., PO Box 225, Lewes, DE 19958.
