On January 1, 2021 @ 1214 in the afternoon Lewes FD was dispatched to a chimney fire that was immediately upgraded to a working structure fire bringing additional units from Rehoboth Beach, Indian River, and Milton fire departments.  Command 82 with Assistant Chief John Colpo was first on scene reporting smoke in the residence with fire in the wall over the fireplace. Engine 3 was first arriving, taking the first due assignment and advancing a handline into the residence. The fire was quickly knocked down. Ladder 82 had first due special service and took the roof assignment checking for extension around the chimney. The fire was contained to the interior wall above the fireplace.  Additional Lewes and Rehoboth beach units assisted on scene and with the quick knockdown; assignments from additional departments were reduced to cover ups for the Lewes district.
