Serious Accident - Coastal Highway at Hudson Fields

At approximately 2:50 PM on Saturday, February 8, 2020, Lewes Fire Department was dispatched to an accident with injury on southbound Coastal Highway at Hudson Fields. First arriving units found one car with extensive damage that appeared to have rolled over. A second vehicle involved in the accident was found inside the Hudson Fields fence approximately 75 yards from the first vehicle. Two occupants were in the first car; one occupant was heavily pinned, and the second occupant had been ejected during the roll-over. There was only one occupant in the second vehicle. Extrication began to remove the trapped victim in the first vehicle, while EMS activities were started on the ejected victim and the occupant of the second car. Unfortunately, the victim who was ejected from the first vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. Upon extrication, the trapped victim was transported to Beebe Hospital with serious injuries. The victim in the second car was also transported to Beebe with serious injuries.  LFD units responding to the scene were Engines 82-1 and 82-9; Rescue 82; Ambulances A-82, B-82, and D-82; Command 82-11; and Lewes Fire Police. Sussex County EMS paramedics were also on the scene.
