Severe Thunderstorm brings 12 alarms to the - Lewes Fire District, the worst in Eagle Point & Sussex East

During a severe thunderstorm that hovered over the Lewes area Monday evening, Lewes Fire Dept. along with mutual aid from Rehoboth Beach, Indian River, Milton, and Georgetown responded to a total of 12 fire alarms. Many were confirmed lightening strikes that included two working fires and one "close call".  The first working fire was a shed in Sussex East with extension into the residence. The second fire was a lightening strike in Eagle Point, discovered and contained quickly to a small fire due to the homeowner being home.  The third fire was the worst in a separate townhouse in Eagle Point causing severe damage to one unit. This fire was discovered by fire units returning from the first Eagle Point fire as there was no one home at that residence giving the fire time to grow.

1830 Residence, Ashburn Lane, Public assist for storm damage
1840 Outbuilding, 7 Andover Lane, Sussex East, heavy fire damage, w/extension into residence
1845 Townhouse, 17650 Point Dr., Eagle Point, small fire contained to floor
1858 Townhouse, 17725 Brighton Dr., Eagle Point, heavy fire damage to interior of structure
1905 Tree fire, Dairy Farm Rd., lightening strike
1925 Condominium, Ocean House, 100 E. Savannah Rd. Lewes Beach, lightening strike
66 Members of Lewes Fire Department responded the calls.
