Hawkseye House Fire
Wed, Aug 18, 2021

On August 18, 2021, at approximately 7:00 PM, Lewes FD was dispatched to a vehicle fire in the Hawkseye subdivision. The call was immediately upgraded to a residential structure fire with the car reported on fire inside the garage, which added Rehoboth Beach, Milton, and Indian River to the call. Upon arrival, Command 82-8 with Asst. Chief Steve Evans, reported heavy fire side A, as there was a vehicle in a three-car garage well involved with the fire spreading into the adjoining home.  Engine 82-2 and Ladder 82 arrived next simultaneously. Command called for a 2 ½ attack line to knock down the bulk of the fire and crews entered the residence with an 1 ¾ attack line to push back the extension into the home. Fire had extended into the house with smoke and fire conditions on both the first and second floors. The fire was brought under control at approximately 7:40 PM, with units working on overhaul and checking for hot spots. All units were clear of the scene by 9:00 PM. LFD units on the scene included Engines 82-1, 82-2, 82-3, and 82-9; Tanker 82; Rescue 82; Ladder 82; Brush 82-10 with Drone 82-1; Command 82-8; Ambulances A-82 and C-82; and the Traffic Control Unit. Assisting at the scene were members of the Delaware State Fire Police, Sussex County EMS Paramedics, Delaware State Fire Marshals Office, and the Rehoboth Beach (86), Milton (85), and Indian River (80) Fire Companies. Cover up / standby crews were provided by Bethany Beach (70), Ellendale (75), Georgetown (77), Millsboro (83), and Slaughter Beach (89) Fire Companies.  No injuries were reported, and the Delaware State Fire Marshals office is investigating.
