On September 2, 2019, at approximately 8:40 PM, Lewes Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire in the Coastal Club subdivision. First arriving units found a single family dwelling with heavy fire showing from the front of the structure. Houses on either side of the involved structure were in danger, due to their close proximity and the extent of the fire. LFD immediately worked to protect the exposure houses from further heat or fire damage. As water supplies were established, crews were able to attack the main body of the fire. Four hand lines were placed in service along with an elevated stream ("ladder pipe") from Ladder 82 and a deck gun from Engine 82-1. Nobody was home when the fire started, and unfortunately, the house was a total loss. All nearby houses, while suffering some melted siding, suffered no serious damage. The fire was declared fully under control in approximately one hour, and there were no injuries reported. Units responding from LFD included Engines 82-1, 82-2, 82-5, and 82-9; Ladder 82; Rescue 82; Brush 82-10; Command 82-8; and Ambulances A-82, B-82, and E-82. Assisting LFD at the scene were Rehoboth (86), Indian River (80), and Milton (85) fire departments; Fire Police; and SCEMS. Georgetown (77) and Slaughter Beach (89) provided cover up crews for LFD.
