On Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at approximately 9:50 PM, Lewes FD was alerted to a traffic accident on Coastal Highway near Wescoats Road. Upon arrival, units found an SUV that had overturned after driving at an extremely high rate of speed and hitting the median. One patient was still trapped inside; two others had self-extricated. Crews stabilized the vehicle and the patient was extricated out of the rear door, passenger side. One of the passengers who self-extricated was taken to the hospital by B-82, while the passenger needing extrication was transported by E-82. (The other passenger who self-extricated fled the scene prior to arrival.) Units on the scene included Rescue 82; Engines 82-1 and 82-5; Command 82-8; Lewes Fire Police and the Traffic Control Unit; and Sussex County EMS. Delaware Trooper 2 was also dispatched, but was returned without being utilized.
