On Friday, March 23, 2018, members of the Lewes FD staffed Station 3 with a "Duty Crew." Members arrived at 6 PM for dinner, cooked in-house. Following dinner, a training session is held - and this weeks training was SCBA and search & rescue operations. Six of the company's junior members were given instruction on the proper operation of the company's SCBA apparatus, followed by the chance to put on a pack and perform a search & rescue operation with no visibility. Firefighter Jerry Carter led the session, assisted by several other senior members.
Members participating in the weekly duty crew remain in station from 6 PM until 7 AM the following morning, which provides the community with a faster response time. These members share a meal and train together, building camaraderie and giving junior members the opportunity to learn from more senior members. Duty crew on March 23 placed Engine 82-9, Tanker 82-4, and ambulance E-82 in service for the evening.
