At approximately 4:20 AM on March 22, 2018, Lewes Fire Department received a dispatch for an automatic fire alarm sounding at the Polo Ralph Lauren store, located in the Tanger - Midway Outlets mall. After the initial dispatch, responding units were advised that the alarm company called back and reported multiple additional alarms from the same location.
First arriving units found smoke conditions inside the store and called for an upgrade to a full structure fire assignment. This brought assistance from Rehoboth Beach Fire Company (86) and Indian River Fire Company (80).
The initial attack found a fire in the rear store room that was contained by an activated fire sprinkler system. While the fire was contained to the area of origin, the store suffered significant smoke and water damage. Stores on either side were checked for extension, and while there was some smoke in those stores, none suffered any fire damage. No injuries were reported.
Responding units from Lewes Fire Department included Engine 82-9, Tanker 82-4, Ladder 82, Command 82-8, Ambulances D82 and E82, and Fire Police.
