Members of the Lewes Fire Department took time out their schedules to particpate in annual Fire Prevention Week events. The week kicked off Sunday assisting Rehoboth Bech FD with their Fire Prevention kick off at the Bandstand on Rehoboth Avenue. Things moved back to Lewes Monday thru Thursday with almost 500 children, 200 teachers and parents learning about smoke detectors, Stop, Drop, & Roll, and other aspects of fire safety. The high point of the day were fire truck rides that put smiles on children and adults alike. Committee Chairperson Bob Nicholson praised his group of 87 volunteers that put in over 500 man hours during the week. Fire Preventions Week is always an exciting time around the station and enjoyed by visitors young and old as well as the membership of the department. Additional events are slated for next week including a visit to the Delaware State Fire School in Georgetown by local elementary students.
