The Lewes Fire department is proud to announce that Fire Police Captain Edward (Eddie) Schaeffer was honored as Sussex County Fire Police Officer of the year at the Delaware Volunteers Firefighters Conference held in Dover.

Eddie has been a member of the department since 2007 but started his career with Rehoboth Beach Fire Department in 1972. Eddie is an extremely active member of the department and is regularly a top responder. In addition to his duties as Fire Police Captain has served on many committees including building maintenance, junior committee, by-laws, and has served as the Sussex County Fire Police Association President. Eddie also chaired the committee that designed the traffic control unit for the department. He regularly drives the ambulance when needed and is an operation for Marine 82.
