MVC vehicle versus pole with extended extrication. - John J. Williams Highway E/O Robinsonville Road

On Friday November 23, 2012, at approximately 0948 hours, The Lewes Fire Departement along with Paramedics and Delaware Trooper 2 were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision, reported subjects trapped. While responding EOC advised Chief Evans, that there was a single vehicle that struck a pole, one subject was confirmed trapped and Trooper 2 was down due to weather. At this time, Fire Police were requested to shut down traffic to John J. Williams Highway around the accident scene. Upon arrival of Engine 82-9, Assistant Chief Magee assumed the extrication officer duties. Vehicle was stablized and preparation for extrication was started. The driver's side door was removed, dash was displaced and the roof removed to allow for extrication of the patient. Patient was finally able to be extricated after freeing the lower extremities from the entanglement. Two patients were transported BLS to Beebe Medical Center. One patient after being extricated was transported ALS to Beebe Medical Center. Debris clean up and traffic control were performed. All Fire apparatus and Fire Police were placed available at 1052 hours.
