Sprinkler contains fire in fifth floor patient room. - Beebe Medical Center 424 Savannah Road
Sun, Jun 10, 2012
On Sunday June 10, 2012 at approximately 1117 hours, the Lewes Fire Department was dispatched to an automatic fire alarm. Upon arrival, Beebe Security met Command 82-8 in the parking lot and advised us that there had been a possible explosion on the fifth floor. Fire Chief Wally Evans assumed command and sent a firefighter to the fifth floor with Security to assess the situation. Upon arrival to the fifth floor, Interior determined that a fire had occurred in a bathroom light fixture in Room #510 and that the sprinkler had extinguished the fire. There was a moderate smoke condition in Room #510 and the sprinkler was still activated in the bathroom. Patients were evacuated from the fire floor area. Fire crews chocked the sprinkler and contained the sprinkler system. Surrounding area was checked for fire extension with none found. Several rooms suffered water damage including the fire floor, fourth floor and third floor. Beebe Medical Center went on total divert until the maintenance crews could clean up and the sprinkler system could be reset. All fire units cleared at 1308 hours. Units on Scene: Command 82-8, Engine 82-3, Engine 82-9, Ladder 82, Ambulance 82 and DSFP.
