DART Rescue Training - Delaware Bay
Tue, May 24, 2011
On Tuesday 05/24/2011 The Delaware Air Rescue Team finished seven days of training with a rescue drill in the Delaware Bay just east of the Yacht Club. The training was provided by Priority1AirRescue through the Delaware State Fire School. Three of the DART's members are from the Lewes Fire Department. The drill featured units from The Delaware State Volunteer Fire Service, The Wilmington Fire Department, DNREC, The Delaware State Police Dive and Aviation Sections, Delaware Fish and Wild Life Police, and Tow Boat USA. The drill was hosted by The Delaware Soil and Conservation Service at their new state of the art office complex located at the Lewes State Boat Launch. DART Members were dispatched to a Hazardous Chemical spill on a barge just inside the outer wall of the Lewes Harbor of Refuge. Three victims were removed from the barge by 82Marine-1 and Trooper Five Heavy. Cargo from the Kent County Technical rescue truck was flown to the barge using Trooper six and a cargo net. One of the victims was rescued from inside the barge using confined area rescue skills.
