On Thursday night, July 9th, at 2233 hours The Lewes Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle accident in the area of the Anchorage Motel on Coastal Highway. Units had just cleared up from handling an automatic fire alarm at Beebe Hospital and a transformer fire on Cape Henlopen Drive simultaneously. Engine 82-2, Rescue 82, and 82-8 immediately responded, receiving a report of multiple vehicles involved with one into a pole. Upon arrival, 82-8 found more than 5 vehicles involved with one into a pole. Captain Sharp operated as the 82-Command. One patient refused EMS care and Coastal Highway was closed for 15 minutes and then down to one lane for the duration of the incident. DP&L was contacted and advised to make a priority one response. Four ambulances from The Lewes Fire Department also responded to the scene as well as Traffic Control 82 and our fire police unit. Units performed patient care, vehicle stabilization, and secured the scene before returning.
